Job Title: Chief Nursing Officer

Job Description

  • The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a senior executive position responsible for overseeing and leading all nursing services across the hospital.
  • The CNO will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the nursing department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and nursing excellence.
  • The CNO will collaborate with other senior leaders to drive clinical innovation, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance, while empowering and mentoring nursing staff to meet the needs of patients and the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the nursing department’s strategic goals in alignment with the hospital’s overall mission and vision.
  • Provide leadership in setting priorities for nursing services and in ensuring alignment with hospital-wide goals, including patient care quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices aimed at enhancing patient care and advancing nursing practice.
  • Ensure that nursing services are delivered at the highest standards, emphasizing patient-centred care, safety, and outcomes.
  • Champion initiatives aimed at improving patient care quality, reducing readmissions, enhancing patient satisfaction, and implementing evidence-based practices across all nursing units.
  • Monitor nursing performance metrics and outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and lead efforts to implement corrective actions.

  • Act as a liaison between the nursing staff and executive leadership, advocating for the needs of the nursing team and ensuring effective communication between all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Midwife (RM) with an active, valid nursing license.
  • Hospital Administration Certification (required).
  • BNMC Certification (advantageous but not required).
  • Minimum 10 years of nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or executive role within a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Proven experience in hospital administration, including the management of nursing services, quality improvement, and patient care management.
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning, budgeting, resource management, and staff development within a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead large teams, influence stakeholders, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing practice standards, healthcare regulations, quality improvement frameworks, and patient care protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
